Who owns Enjoy Computing?
We’re not a big company or owned by an exam board. We are not affiliated with any products or services. We are just a pair of Computing teachers that have been teaching since 2003 after spending a couple of years ‘converting’. We both came from different backgrounds – J from English and P from Maths.
We’ve taught a variety of courses – IT, ICT, ECDL, TLM, OCR Nationals, BTEC IT, Computer Science and Creative iMedia. We are both subject leaders and J is a Specialist Leader of Education and is a Google Educator (Level 2). More recently he has registered as an OCR Assessment Specialist. P has supported local schools improve practices and helps J with the Maths side of things when necessary!
How did the website happen?
No longer training
In 2003 we officially became teachers.
When no many teachers were online
J found it hard to share his teaching materials with students online (haven’t times changed!?). So he created a website for his students to access his resources at school and home (it even got a little mention under ‘Sir puts work on the web’ in the Guardian).
We both started sharing resources via TES and with over 32,000 downloads now we’ve decided to finally organise them a bit more! We get a bit fed up of expensive resources from companies that don’t appear to know how their resources would work in the classroom and we want to be a bit different from that!
Enjoy Computing created
It then took until April 2020 to get the website up and running. For ease we started with an online website editor to save time whilst we prepared all our resources.
After six months we were ready to host them on (what we think) is a better site and the one you are on now!
Why do the resources appear ‘low cost’?
We started sharing resources for free but the landscape has changed quite a lot over the last few decades. We purchase resources from TES occasionally and we are happy to pay to show an appreciation of the time it took for the author to create them.
As you would expect, running our website has costs and we want to try and cover these so we can keep the website online. We’re semi-human full-time teachers so occasionally we come across the odd typo. Thankfully our students notice most things and we correct them. But if you did spot something just drop us a line and we’ll fix it and give you a new copy.
